A female green sea turtle was rescued after being trapped in a fish pen in Barangay Trece, Martires Casiguran, Sorsogon, and has been safely returned to the sea.

The turtle measured 69 cm in width, 80 cm in length, and weighed approximately 50 kilograms. It was found entangled in debris in the area.

According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the turtle was freed from the fish pen immediately and assessed to be in good health.

It was released back to sea later.

Ava De Castro, from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) in Casiguran, said it is important to report such incidents involving endangered species to the local government units (LGUs).

"Sa ating mga constituents, sa mga mamamayan, kung may ma-recover po kayo na endangered species tulad po ng mga turtle, coordinate lang po kayo sa LGU," De Castro said.
