Residents of San Felipe, City of San Fernando, Pampanga were shocked early morning on July 3, 2024 when an 18-wheeler truck fell off a bridge on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) northbound.

Based on police investigation, the truck attempted to overtake another vehicle but hesitated due to oncoming traffic.

The driver hit the brakes abruptly, causing the truck to crash into the back of a 22-wheeler truck.

The impact forced the 18-wheeler truck to swerve into the side of the bridge and eventually fall off the expressway, plummeting five meters.

The truck also hit a power pole and dragged electrical wires down. An approaching sports utility vehicle (SUV) got caught in the wires.

Rescue teams and police responded to the scene immediately. Both the driver of the 22-wheeler and the SUV were unharmed.

The driver of the 18-wheeler truck sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital but is now in stable condition.

The police continue their investigation, as of this writing, to determine what charges the truck driver may face.

Authorities advised drivers to always be aware when driving on NLEX and to avoid speeding.

“Lagi po nating pinaalalahanan po ang ating mga kababayang motorista na dapat pag nagdri-drive po sila sa NLEX dapat aware sila, hindi naman po pabilisan iyan. Considering po na malaki po ang mga truck na dala nila hindi dapat sila umovertake ng hindi clear," PCOL. Jay Dimaandal, Provincial Director of the Pampanga Philippine National Police (PNP), said.
