President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. led the distribution of assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and their families in Eastern Visayas on July 4, 2024. 

In a program at the Northwest Samar State University in Calbayog City, Samar, the President extended monetary support that amounted P10,000 each to select ten beneficiaries from the Provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar. 

He also handed over P50 million to the Provincial Government of Samar, P19.3 million to the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, and P25.9 million to the Provincial Government of Northern Samar.

In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided P10,000 each to 8,930 beneficiaries while the Office of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez gave 10 kilos of rice to each event attendee.

The event also saw the distribution of various government assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC).

After the event in Calbayog City, the President headed to the Municipality of Palô in Leyte.

Select beneficiaries composed of farmers and fisherfolk from the Provinces of Leyte, Biliran and Southern Leyte received P10,000 each from the President to “aid them from the devastating effects of the El Niño crisis.”

Farm machineries, equipment and various government projects were also given to identified recipients.

Presidential assistance amounting to P17,020,000 was received by the Provincial Government of Leyte; P13,680,000 by the Provincial Government of Biliran; and P10,310,000 by the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte to “support these areas as they recover from the crisis and rebuild the livelihoods of their people.”
