Burglars sneaked in a mall in Carcar City, Cebu Province and carted away pieces of jewelry, smartphones, among other valuable items.

Carcar City Police coordinated with other police stations in Cebu where the same modus operandi in burglary has been recorded.

The perpetrators bored a gap through the wall of the mall's grocery store to gain access to the cellphone shops and the jewelry store, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Bryan O’Neil Salvacion, chief of the Carcar City Police.

The tools left behind by the perpetrators include a bolt cutter, a metal saw with six extra metal saw plates, a metal crowbar, a metal flat crew, and a wire-cutter pliers.

The items were recovered by members of the Carcar City Police inside the jewelry store. However, the burglars failed to open the jewelry store's vault.

A CCTV footage showed that before entering the jewelry store, two bonnet-wearing men first took items at a cellphones and accessories store, and money worth over P85,000 believed to be store proceeds.

Salvacion, however, said that it was not determined if there were only two men responsible for the burglary, or if there were more until all footages in and outside of the mall get to be reviewed completely.

Carcar City Police have coordinated with other police stations that recorded incidents of the same nature and pattern.

Salvacion said that an incident in a big store in Danao City, north Cebu in June 2024 established the same modus operandi. The pattern showed that the perpetrators also drilled a hole on the wall to gain entry.
