A man tagged as a drug personality was shot dead when he allegedly fired at police operatives in a buy-bust operation in Mina town, Province of Iloilo.

The operation was carried out by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) in Barangay Badiangan, Municipality of Mina.

However, when the suspect referred to as alias "Alnie" noticed that he was having a transaction with policemen, he ran toward a ricefield and fired allegedly at the poseur buyer.

Operatives fired back and hit the suspect that caused his instantaneous death.

RPDEU recovered 700 grams of suspected shabu worth P4.5 million from the suspect.

Alias “Alnie” is said to be a resident of Barangay Janipaan Central, Cabatuan town in Iloilo. His companion referred to as alias “Joery” is said to be the husband of his cousin.

"Joery" drove the vehicle where the illegal drugs were recovered.

However, "Joery" said that though they were on a meet-up, he has no idea on the activities of the suspect.

Aside from the suspected shabu, the authorities also recovered from the suspect a 45 caliber pistol and a motorcycle.

Police confirmed that "Alnie" has cases for murder and theft, and that he was placed under a one-month surveillance prior to the buy-bust operation.

Meanwhile, "Joery" is now detained at the Mina Municipal Police Station. He will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
