Four members of the Cagayan police are under investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for their alleged involvement in a "large-scale paluwagan scam."

The investigation was initiated after the Cagayan Philippine National Police (PNP) received over 150 complaints, and the NBI received around 200 complaints, regarding a Ponzi scheme or pyramid scheme that implicated the four officers.

"Nagre-recruit sila [at] hinikayat nila ang iba, at marami ang nahikayat... ini-imbestigahan na namin... di ko alam asawa ko pa pala nabiktima [din]," PCOL. Julio Gorospe, Provincial Director of Cagayan PNP, said.

Authorities are still determining the total amount of money scammed through this scheme, as of this writing.

The officers accused have been placed under restricted status.

The provincial and city governments are also supporting the investigation to hold those responsible for the alleged scam accountable.
