The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has sounded the alarm bells over the rising number of shooting incidents in Zamboanga City.

The latest incident, the 54th one, happened on July 2, 2024 with a teacher shot dead outside his office in Barangay Cabatangan.

The victim sustained four gunshot wounds.

Police are eyeing personal grudge as possible motive in the killing.

Authorities said most of the shooting incidents are motivated by personal grudge and that the victims and perpetrators are not residents of the city.

CHR-Zamboanga condemned the incidents as it urged the public to be vigilant.

“’Yung call namin sa public to be vigilant at sa ating law enforcement para ma-resolve ang cases on shooting incidents. ‘Yung naging challenge sa kanila ay itong mga target, as well as gumawa ng krimen… majority ay hindi from Zamboanga,” CHR-9 Director, Atty. Judelyn Macapili, said.
