The business permit of the fireworks operator whose stockpile of firecrackers exploded at a warehouse in Zamboanga City, which killed five people and injured over 30 others, has been suspended.

Mayor John Dalipe has ordered the suspension pending results of the investigation into the explosion.

During a meeting, a total ban on firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices was recommended to prevent a similar incident in the future.

However, the recommendation would need a city ordinance.

Dalipe is also expected to issue an order directing the City Engineer’s Office, barangay officials, and the police to check all warehouses and storage facilities in the city.

Authorities said the blast site remains closed to civilians and motorists, including residents of houses nearby as clearing operations continues.

Several boxes of pyrotechnics that have been drenched with water are still in the area and must be retrieved for disposal.
