A Grade 5 pupil in Iloilo City won bronze medal in the 2024 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge in Bogor, Indonesia.

Matthieu Paul Gil Falcis, a Grade 5 pupil of The Great International School in Iloilo City, is one of three students from Western Visayas who won in the said competition on June 21, 2024.

The other winners are Ma. Reesabelle Roldan, a Grade 2 pupil of Aklan Learning Center; and Miguel Yee, a Grade 5 pupil at Saint John’s Institute Hua Ming in Bacolod City who went home with silver medals.

The Philippine team comprised of schools from different regions in the country won a total of 37 medals (two golds, 12 silvers, 16 bronzes, and seven merit medals).

Over 300 students from Thailand, Indonesia, China and its territories Hong Kong and Macau, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore, and the Philippines competed in the said math challenge.

Maria Katrina Acuros, Matthieu’s mother, said that her son has started showing a keen interest in numbers and patterns in kindergarten.

Matthieu is grateful to his family, coaches, teachers, and friends for their encouragement and support. He is preparing for the International Mathematics Competition in Singapore this July 2024.
