Authorities seized more than P14.6 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes and arrested three men in Maguindanao del Norte on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Police conducted a checkpoint after receiving an intelligence report about the transport of alleged smuggled cigarettes. Later, they intercepted two vehicles loaded with the contraband.

The suspects arrested are all residents of Parang town.

One vehicle was loaded with 35 boxes of assorted cigarettes worth nearly P1 million while the other vehicle was carrying 480 boxes of cigarettes valued at around P13.6 million.

The suspects, and the items seized and vehicles, were placed under police custody.

Police have coordinated with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for the filing of charges.

“This operation highlights the dedication of our local law enforcement to combating smuggling and upholding the rule of law in our community. Our coordinated efforts are crucial in preventing illegal activities and ensuring the safety and security of our region,” Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) Director, Brigadier General Prexy Tanggawohn, said.
