The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (NDRRMO) issued an advisory prohibiting sea travel in Ilocos Norte and Cagayan from June 28 to 30, 2024 as debris from a rocket is expected to fall on its waters.

Authorities have warned mariners and fishermen.

The rocket, Long March 7A, was launched by the People's Republic of China in Wenchang, Hainan.

In Ilocos Norte, debris from the rocket is expected to fall within 75 nautical miles off the shore of Burgos.

Burgos Philippine National Police (PNP) is monitoring the coastlines closely.

In Cagayan, the drop zone identified is located 126 nautical miles from the shoreline of Sta. Ana.

The Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is now monitoring the coastlines of Sta. Ana and Gonzales.

Authorities advised fishermen to divert to other fishing grounds in the meantime.

“Iyong site ay identified. May coordinates po kung saan babagsak iyon [na rocket]. Pinapaalalahan po namin sila na huwag lumapit doon. Hindi naman natin sila makontrol kasi iyon ang hanapbuhay nila, nagdi-divert [nalang] sila ng lugar kung saan sila mangingisda," Bonifacio Espiritu, Deputy Chief of Operations and Warning at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO)-Cagayan, said.
