At least 18 people were injured in a collision involving two jeepneys on Mc Arthur Highway in Puan, Davao City.

Police said the two jeepneys were travelling in the same direction going to the downtown area when one of them hit the jeepney in front of it.

The driver of the jeepney that was hit said he was supposed to make a stop to let a passenger disembark when the jeepney behind them hit them.

“Nahitabo ato, nagpadaplin ko diha kay naay mubaba nga pasahero, unya pagpadaplin nako, wala may, hawan kaayo kay alas says, alas says y medya, wala pa gyuy mga sakyanan, pag-aksyon tindog sa pasahero kay mubaba, nakita niya naa nagsagurot nga, paspas kaayo,” the driver said.

The passenger who was supposed to disembark said it was only a matter of seconds between the time he was about to go down and the time the other jeepney hit them.

“Pag-aksyon nako og naog, nakita nako ang nakabangga sa amoa, duol nalang kaayo. So, nanggunit ko, nanggunit pud ko diri sa may front seat…paspas kaayo, seconds lang, paana sya, kusog gyud kaayo,” the passenger said.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other jeepney said he has just dropped a passenger off and was about to move forward when the jeepney in front of him reportedly blocked his way.

“Gikan ko nag-drop, pasulod nako dayon, niana sya ba… pagsulod niya, niderecho siya og babag,” the driver said.

Police said three passengers of one jeepney were injured while 15 passengers of the other jeepney were hurt.

Should the injured passengers decide to file a case, the jeepney drivers will likely face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury.

“Sa karon, kung mo-complain gyud ang injured victims, possible ani nga charge is reckless imprudence resulting to physical injury…depende sa pila kabuok ang mo-complain,” Baliok Police Station Traffic Investigator, Staff Sergeant Ranel Aredidon, said.
