A juvenile Philippine flying lemur referred to locally as “kagwang” was released in the forest of Lake Danao, Ormoc City.

Forester Ronelmar Aguilar, Ormoc City Watershed Management Officer, said that a concerned citizen handed over to the local Environment and Natural Resources Office the flying lemur believed to have gone astray from its mother.

After a thorough check on the condition of the flying lemur, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Local Government Unit of Ormoc City determined that it is fit to be released to the forest.

Aguilar confirmed that the “kagwang” is endemic to the Philippines.
