Authorities confiscated alleged smuggled cigarettes worth nearly P20 million in the waters off Sinunuc Island in Zamboanga City on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Members of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company were patrolling the area for smuggling activities when they intercepted an alleged suspicious motorboat.
The motorboat was carrying 346 master cases of alleged smuggled cigarettes allegedly from Sulu to be delivered to Zamboanga City.
Authorities said the cigarettes confiscated have no graphic health warnings.
The seven crew members on board the vessel reportedly failed to present legal documents for the cargo.
Police turned the seized items over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) while the crew members were detained temporarily at the Zamboanga City Police Station 4.
