An airport security assistant and a jeepney driver will face charges over the death of a truck driver and his helper who were pinned inside the cab of the truck they were riding in Davao City.

In a CCTV footage, the airport security assistant was seen disembarking from a jeepney in front of the cargo entrance of the Davao International Airport on Carlos P. Garcia Highway.

The pedestrian then crossed the street even when the light had turned green, forcing the truck driver to step on the brakes.

As the truck was forced to a stop, the sheet piles at the back were pushed forward to the cab, pinning the driver and his helper inside.

What was used to secure the sheets reportedly got loosened up.

“Nakita didto ang gihikot, ang gi-lock sa mga bakal nga singkwenta kabuok nakuan ang tali, natanggal ba, na-loosen maong nadiretso ang bakal sa duha ka sakay sa truck,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Tuazon, said.

Rescuers retrieved the body of the 56-year-old driver, Nestor Doronio, and his helper, KR Rasonable, 24, from the truck.

Police said the victims’ families are determined to file charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the pedestrian who was taken into police custody. They will also reportedly file charges against the jeepney driver.

“Based sa investigation sa Buhangin Police kay ang root sa aksidente gahapon katong pedestrian nga mitabok while kanang driver nga nagpababa sa pedestrian lane while green light, i-identify pa nato para ma-file-lan nato og kaso nga violation sa ra 4136,” Tuazon said.
