Residents of six barangays in Dagupan City experienced nearly 12 hours without water supply after a major water transmission line was damaged by a backhoe during road construction at the intersection of AB Fernandez and Nable streets.

The barangays affected include Pantal, Herrero Perez, Barangay Uno, Barangay Two and Three, Barangay Kwatro, and Poblacion Oeste.

"Isang aksidente ulit ang nangyari kasi natamaan siya ng backhoe, kasi ginagawa ang ating kalsada," Marge Navata, spokesperson for Pamana Water Corporation in Dagupan City, said.

Some residents managed to store water before the supply was cut off on June 25, 2024 at around 4 p.m.

Yza Yazar, a resident, said it's hard when there is a water outage.

"Mahirap talaga kapag walang tubig, walang pang saing, walang panligo, [at] walang panghugas ng plato," she said.

Supply was restored early morning on June 26 after nearly 12 hours of interruption.

Pamana Water Corporation worked overnight to repair the transmission line.

"Normal na ang operation mula kaninang bago mag 5:30 [a.m.], between 5 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., kasi natapos nila ang repair kaninang alas kwatro ng umaga. So pinaandar ang booster dito sa Tambac at nag-flushing sila. And then, binigyan nila ng pagkakataon na mag-build up ang pressure," Navata said.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to coordinate with Pamana Water Corporation as road construction projects proceed in the city.
