The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded a phreatic eruption at Taal Volcano that lasted for two minutes evening on June 24, 2024.

The ash plume reached 600 meters high and dissipated quickly—a minor eruption, according to experts.

Dr. Teresito Bacolcol, Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – PHIVOLCS, said it was relatively small compared to a larger phreatic eruption on April 12, which reached 2,400 meters.

PHIVOLCS also reported volcanic tremors lasting 36 minutes around the volcano and recorded over 4,000 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions from Taal as of June 20.

The readings depend on weather conditions, making them less reliable during rainy periods.

"Depende kung maulan. So wala rin silang makukuhang reading kasi magiging erroneous 'yun kapag maulan," Bacolcol said.

Entry into the Permanent Danger Zone of Taal Volcano Island remains strictly prohibited.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1.
