In Barangay Baruan, Agno, Pangasinan, a romantic getaway turned tragic as a 48-year-old woman was swept into the sea by strong waves. Her 47-year-old husband, in an effort to rescue her, was also carried away by the strong currents.
The incident happened near the infamous ‘Depth Pool.’
Police said the wife had walked from a beach resort in Burgos to a rock formation near the Depth Pool. Strong waves pulled her to the deep part of the sea.
Her husband rushed to rescue her but drowned, as well.
Ross Brian Marmeto, Chief of Agno Police Station, said.
It took responders up to four hours to recover the couple’s bodies.
The victims were from Antipolo, Rizal, and were on vacation in Pangasinan.
Quoting the couple’s child, the police said the victims knew how to swim but the strength of the wind and waves may have been overwhelming.
Authorities remind beachgoers to be cautious of strong waves, especially during the monsoon season.
