A member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and another man died while a student was wounded in separate shooting incidents in Mindanao.

A 26-year-old member of the PCG was shot dead while he was with his girlfriend in Lamitan City, Basilan on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

He was a resident of Akbar, Basilan and was assigned in Ormoc City, Leyte.

Police said the gunman shot the victim and fled right away on board a motorcycle.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but he died dawn on Friday due to severe gunshot wounds in his body.

GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the victim’s family and PCG for a statement.

In Cagayan de Oro, a 35-year-old man was shot dead at a public market in Barangay 35, Cagayan de Oro.

The victim died on the spot while the unidentified gunman also fled after the incident.

Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol.

A car parked nearby was also hit by a bullet.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old student was shot while waiting for his sibling in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City.

Investigators said the victim was standing on the street while waiting for his sibling who was playing a mobile game when riding-in-tandem gunmen shot the victim thrice.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds on his hand and back, and he was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The victim is now recuperating in the hospital.

This is the 47th shooting incident in the city since January 2024.

Authorities are investigating the three separate shooting incidents to determine the motives and arrest the perpetrators.
