The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) is set to recommend the lifting of the state of calamity status of the city because of the onset of the rainy season.

ZWCD is expected to submit the recommendation to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in July.

The city was placed under a state of calamity in March 2024 due to the effects of El Niño.

“There was a Sangguniang Panglungsod resolution issued then it is legally fitting (to lift) that of course, it is also be the city council who will lift but based on the recommendation of water district,” ZCWD Assistant General Manager, Michael Carbon, said.

According to ZCWD, it will observe until the end of June the water level at Pasonanca Watershed that supplies potable water to the residents.

ZCWD will monitor if the normal water level of 74.20 meters will prevail, including the water turbidity before it will submit the recommendation.

“After June 30, the ZCWD will make its recommendation, we will submit the recommendation to the ZDRRMO, as to whether or not state of calamity will be lifted, will be decided by the city council,” Carbon added.
