A 52-year-old woman died after she was bit by a snake in Barangay Taloy, Malaqiui, Pangasinan.

Dolores Fernandez, the victim, was gathering grass for her livestock in the field when the incident occurred.

"Bandang alas-kwatro, doon na siya nakagat. Hindi na niya napuno ‘yung sako ng damo [kasi] nagmadali na siyang umuwi pero mahina na," Mario Fernandez, the victim's husband, said.

Neighbors rushed Dolores to the hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.

Doctors said the victim died because of the venom from the snake bite.

The incident has instilled fear among residents, especially those who visit or work in the fields frequently.

"Sana mahuli kasi marami pa sigurong mangyayaring makakagat ‘yun, lalo kaming farmers na [lagi nasa] bukid [na] nangunguha ng damo," Jonald Mendeguarin, a resident, said.

Residents want the barangay to capture the snake to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

"Dapat lang mahuli ‘yung ahas para ma-avoid ang mga magsasaka na hindi makakagat,” Eufemia Mendeguarin, a barangay councilwoman, said.

Barangay officials are now coordinating with snake experts.

Authorities also remind the public to seek immediate medical attention at the Region 1 Medical Center or Pangasinan Provincial Hospital if bitten by a snake for antivenom treatment.
