A fire destroyed around 30 houses and displaced 111 residents of Barangay Lingga in Calamba City, Laguna.

The people affected have taken temporary shelter at the barangay's covered court.

According to the Calamba Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire spread quickly due to the combustible nature of the materials used in some houses, including ancestral homes.

Damage to property is estimated to exceed P2 million.

"Umabot po siya ng 111 individuals, with 38 families. May mga area na walang firewall, and may mga area tayo na gawa siya sa light materials, so highly combustible, kaya po mabilis talagang naabot ng apoy," FO3 Rochelle Quilang, Chief of the Public Information Section at Calamba Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), said.

The fire reached the third alarm. Firefighters declared it fully extinguished after two hours.

The cause of the fire is still being looked into, as of this writing.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The city government has also provided assistance to the residents affected.

Authorities advised residents to not be complacent and always check electrical appliances at home.
