A sports utility vehicle (SUV) was damaged severely after getting hit by a passing train at a railroad crossing in Barangay Sagrada, San Juan, Baao, Camarines Sur.
Several residents reported hearing a loud crash during the incident.
"Duwang bagsak na para bagang naraot, ang nadangog ko — arog kaan lagabong duwang beses," Soledad Somedo, a witness, said.
According to the police, the SUV driver actually noticed the train which was headed to Albay from Naga City. He reportedly attempted to stop but may not have estimated the distance from the train tracks accurately.
“Ang [problema] lang po [ay] dae niya natantiya si distance from the railroad or sa riles po kaitong sa bumper niya. Eh nagkataon po na si bumper niya medyo upgraded na po — kaya ito po ang nahagip kang train," PMS Herbert Pili from Baao Municipal Police Station (MPS), said.
The driver had no reported injuries.
Pili advised motorists to be cautious near railroad crossings, especially now that the Philippine National Railways (PNR) operations have resumed.
"Pag approaching po sa railroad, make sure na may nakalaag po baga yan [na] stop, look, and listen... si mga motorist ta na lang po ang maging aware, [at] i-make sure ang distance po from the railroad," he said.
The driver's family said they have already made arrangements with PNR.
