An alleged communist rebel was killed in a gun fight in Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat.
Troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion (7IB) launched an operation after receiving a report that a group of New People’s Army (NPA) members was allegedly extorting in Barangay Kiadsam.
The operating team engaged around eight rebels in an exchange of fire that lasted for about four minutes.
While scouring the clash site, the military found a dead body believed to be that of a rebel abandoned by his comrades.
The military also recovered a caliber .30 Garand rifle and ammunition.
“Patuloy pa nating inaalam ang pagkakakilanlan nitong nasawing komunistang terorista,” 7IB Commander, Lt. Col. Tristan Rey Vallescas, said.
Brigadier General Michael Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, ordered all units to run after the remaining members of the NPA.
“Lahat ng posibleng lagusan ninyo bantay sarado na ngayon ng tropa ng pamahalaan, bukod diyan tuloy-tuloy din ang aming decisive military operation laban sainyo,” Santos said.
