A 12-year-old boy died after he got electrocuted while trying to retrieve a kite up a tree in Barangay Doyong, San Carlos City, Pangasinan on June 5, 2024.

The victim was identified as John Matthew De Guzman.

According to the victim's family, the boy accidentally touched a live wire dangling close to the branches.

"Ang sakit-sakit ng nangyari sa apo ko. Sana mabuhay pa siya ulit. Mabait ang apo ko, kapag hindi pa ako kumain, aakyatan ako ng pagkain sa taas, [sasabihin niyan], ‘kain na ikaw nay,’" Rebecca Soriano, the victim's grandmother, said.

The family's grief is compounded by the recent death of the victim's father barely a month earlier.

"Dobleng sakit. kawawa ‘yung bata, sana lumaki man lang siya pero wala, nawala siya agad," Diana De Guzman, the victim's aunt, said.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man also died from electrocution while working on a house in Barangay Poblacion, Anda, Pangasinan.

Police said the victim also accidentally touched the scaffolding that was in contact with a live wire.

The man was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police have ruled out foul play in the incident.

Authorities advised the public to always be careful with electrical wires.

"I-check lagi ang kawad ng kuryente; ‘yung mga nabalatang wire, lagyan ng electrical tape para maiwasan  na maulit ang mga ganitong insidente," PMSGT. Nardilito Dela Cruz from the Anda Police Station, said.
