Authorities rescued eight people believed to be victims of human trafficking at Bongao Port in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
Members of the 1st Special Operations Unit of the PNP Maritime Group and other government agencies responded to a report of a concerned citizen that eight individuals were to travel to Bongao, Tawi-Tawi from Jolo, Sulu.
The group allegedly intended to travel to Semporna, Malaysia but the eight failed to present documents for the trip.
The eight individuals were placed under the care of the Local Committees on Anti-Trafficking and VAWC (LCAT-VAWC) of Bongao Municipal Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking (MIACT) and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for assessment and support.
