The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has approved the second phase of toll adjustments for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), effective June 4, 2024.

Under the new toll matrix, motorists traveling to Marilao, Bulacan from Balintawak, Caloocan City will see a fare increase.

The toll fee for Class 1 vehicles, such as regular cars and sports utility vehicles (SUVs), will increase by P5. The fee for Class 2 vehicles, including buses and small trucks, will increase by P14, while the fee for Class 3 vehicles will see a P17 hike.

There will also be toll adjustments for those traveling between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City.

End-to-end toll fees will increase by P27 for Class 1 vehicles, P68 for Class 2 vehicles, and P81 for Class 3 vehicles.

The first tranche of approved toll adjustments, which was 50 percent, was implemented on May 25, 2023.

Implementation was divided into two phases to make the increase less burdensome on motorists.

“Ipinatupad po lahat iyan last year. Para hindi naman po maging mabigat sa mga motorista minabuti po na hatiin," Julius Corpuz, spokesperson for TRB, said.

NLEX said they exempted food haulers from the toll increases so it does not affect the prices of goods they transport.

"Ang ating pong pamahalaan, together with the operators and investors of the expressway, ay nagcome-up po with guidelines para po ang ating mga food haulers natin [are] exempt[ed] po sa mga toll increases; para hindi po maging rason ang ating toll fee increase sa pagtaas ng presyo ng mga produktong dala dala nila," Corpuz said.

According to NLEX, the toll increase will support the implementation of infrastructure and enhancement projects to ensure the safety of motorists traveling on the expressway.
