The Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) said the temporary relief of 35 police officers and officials of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) in connection to the investigation into drug-related killings in the city is part of the due process to ensure transparency in the probe.
Among the 35 cops are six station commanders and DCPO chief, Col. Richard Bad-ang. Bad-ang was replaced by Col. Rolindo Suguilon last May 23, 2024.
PRO-11 said the administrative relief of the 35 cops was also based on the recommendation of the Regional Internal Affairs Service-Davao (RIAS-11).
“Such action was not taken lightly, but with thorough deliberation and with profound consideration of all facts and surrounding circumstances of RIAS 11 investigation with the end view of ascertaining the truth. It must be noted, however that this is in accordance with the observance of the procedural due process aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability of public officers,” PRO-11 said.
Police killed seven drug suspects who allegedly fought against operatives in separate operations from March 23 to 26, 2024, within four days after the mayor declared a war against illegal drugs.
PRO-11 and the PNP Internal Affairs Service assured the public that the investigation will be done fairly.
The cops relieved will be reinstated once they cleared of liability.
“Upon conclusion of the investigation and the finding of non-culpability, this PRO may among others, reinstate them to their previous designations,” PRO-11 said.
“This PRO remains committed in upholding the law with integrity, accountability, and transparency in accordance with the existing laws, policies and guidelines. We also acknowledge the support of the local government of Davao City to this PRO and we will maintain this strong partnership for a lasting peace and order and public safety in the community,” PRO-11 added.
