This may serve as a warning to belligerent traffic violators.

A traffic violator in Talisay City, Province of Cebu has been convicted for direct assault.

The traffic violator, identified as a 41-year-old security guard,  punched a traffic enforcer who flagged him for a traffic violation in Barangay Linao on February 14, 2024.

City of Talisay-Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA) Chief Jonathan Tumulak disclosed he received a copy of the court order in the third week of May 2024.

The security guard was apprehended but he revved his vehicle and left the traffic enforcer. He was later intercepted by another enforcer in F. Bas Street.

The suspect resisted arrest, went berserk, and punched the enforcer.

Tumulak said they pursued the case against the suspect to serve a lesson to all traffic violators, especially the hostile and aggressive ones.

According to the Revised Penal Code, persons charged for direct assault "shall suffer the penalty of prisión correccional in its medium and maximum periods."

A fine of about P2,000 was also ordered.
