Rain poured over Iloilo City and certain towns in Iloilo Province.

To Jerry, a farmer in Leganes town, Iloilo, the rain on May 8, 2024 is in every farmer's prayers in nearly five months after experiencing punishing high heat indices.

Jerry said that the rain's return offers relief from having to water his beds of vegetables manually.

The downpour also replenishes a well where he draws water.  Under the prolonged hot weather, the well has already dried up.

Residents expressed gladness at the rainy day because it had abated a bit the warm air over Panay Island, one of the worst hit by the prevailing extreme hot weather in the country.

According to state weather bureau, PAGASA, the El Niño phenomenon is expected to weaken by the end of May 2024. However, because of the high heat experienced in nearly five months, chances for strong typhoons to develop are also high during the La Niña (rainy) season by June 2024.
