The Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) has condemned the killing of a police captain in Parang, Maguindanao Del Norte on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

PRO-BAR ordered the Maguindanao Del Norte Provincial Police Office to conduct a thorough probe on the killing of Captain Roland Moralde, a member of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB 14-A) and a manhunt operation against the perpetrators.

“The prevalence of violence against our policemen is deeply concerning, as it demonstrates a disregard for the principles of law and order. These acts of disrespect towards authorities should not be tolerated, as they undermine the safety of our policemen and pose a threat to maintaining peace, order, and the safety of the community,” the PRO-BAR said.

Moralde was shot dead by unidentified perpetrators during a confrontation that led to a gunfight at a public market in Barangay Poblacion.

Moralde reportedly tried to frisk a man who was observed to be carrying a short firearm, which resulted in a confrontation that led to an exchange of fire.

During the confrontation, more suspects arrived at the scene and engaged with the victim. One of the suspects was also hit.

Moralde and one of the wounded suspects were taken to the hospital but both were declared dead upon arrival.

Recovered from the crime scene were pieces of evidence, including fired cartridge cases from caliber .45 and 9mm pistols.

“We stand in solidarity with the family of the victim throughout this difficult period. Thus, PRO BAR is fully committed to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrator/s behind this incident. We are calling on the general public to collaborate and join forces with the PNP and other government officials in our efforts to deliver justice to the victim's family. The cooperation and support of the community are valuable in solving this crime and ensure the safety of our society,” the PRO-BAR added.
