A 14-year-old girl was shot dead inside her family’s rented space in Sitio Riverside I, Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, Cebu at past 7 a.m. on April 26, 2024. 

The victim is a Grade 7 student who was answering her learning modules at home.

The victim was preoccupied with her learning modules as she was scheduled to hand these over to her teachers at school on the same day.

With her was a 13-year-old relative who was also engrossed with her learning modules. 

Initial investigation had it that a man knocked on the door, but when they did not respond, the man stormed inside and shot the girl hitting her in the right cheek. 

Neighbors said they heard a single gunshot but they have not seen the perpetrator.

Her learning modules and other belongings were found scattered in bed, stained with blood.

The girl’s mother named “Evelyn” said she knows nobody who could have had a grudge with her daughter. 

The Talisay City Police, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Epraem Paguyod, have looked into various angles to determine the motive of the shooting. 

One of the angles the police pursued is the alleged involvement of the girl’s parents and a sibling in illegal drugs. 

The authorities have also traced of any CCTV installed in the area that could help provide leads in the ongoing investigation.
