At least 57 hogs died from African Swine Fever (ASF) virus in three barangays in Dauis town, Province of Bohol.

Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado confirmed that death of pigs from ASF virus has been recorded in Barangays Mayacabac, Biking, and Mariveles in Dauis.

Aumentado issued an executive order that banned temporarily the entry of live hogs and pork products within 30 days from the towns of Panglao and Dauis in Panglao Island to mainland Bohol.

The ban takes effect from April 18, 2024 to  May 18, 2024, which he said certainly affects Bohol prominent for having quite a number of fiestas in May.

A 24-hour checkpoint is being facilitated especially at the border of Panglao Island and mainland Bohol.

Aumentado said he is worried the ASF incident will affect the entire P6-billion hog industry in the province.

“Ang atong hog industry sa Bohol maapektuhan gyud  not only big time, kini pud atong mga small time.  Kining nagbuhi sa ilang backyard, kining naa sa balay.  Usa pud nga potential maigo kung ma-spread out ni,” Aumentado said.

Residents of Panglao who will pass through the checkpoint will go through a stamping procedure. In the absence of the prescribed stamp, residents will undergo a process of investigation.

The governor apologized to the public for the inconvenience the stringent procedure may bring to residents.

“Mao na karon mangayo lang mig gamayng pagsabot sa katawhan nganong ato ning gi-istrikto aron dili ni ma-spread out,” Aumentado added.

In 2023, 80 hogs were confirmed positive of the ASF virus in Barangay San Vicente, Pilar town but the situation was controlled quickly.
