A 41-year-old jeepney driver from Barangay Lumbang, Lipa City, Batangas died after he was shot multiple times by a fellow jeepney driver.
According to the police, the victim was cleaning his jeepney for his morning route when the suspect arrived and began shooting him using a .45 caliber handgun, hitting him in different parts of his body.
The victim was brought to the hospital but died a few hours later.
CCTV footage captured the suspect chasing a bystander who had fled the scene after witnessing the shooting.
Authorities suspect that the suspect's actions may have been influenced by illegal drug use. He reportedly underwent rehabilitation in the past for substance abuse, said
El Cid Villanueva of the Lipa City Component Police Station, said.
The suspect expressed regret and said he acted out of fear. He said the victim allegedly always threw expletives at him and even allegedly threatened to kill him.
Pinagsisishan ko ho ang aking nagawa," he said.
The firearm used in the crime was recovered near the crime scene.
Residents reported that the suspect had fired two shots the previous night, but the incident was not reported to the authorities.
