A residential fire broke out in the vicinity of TB Pavilion, Barangay Sambag Dos in Cebu City at around 4 p.m. on April 8, 2024. 

The fire was raised to second alarm at 4:16 p.m., third alarm at 4:23 p.m., and on to fourth alarm at 5:01 p.m.

According to SFO2 Wendell Villanueva of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Cebu City, 82 houses were damaged in three sitios - Brupa, Kalubihan, and Riverside; 78 were burned totally while four were damaged partially. 

The fire bureau disclosed that an airconditioning unit exploded and caused the fire which was raised to fourth alarm. Damage was placed approximately at P7.5 million. 

However, the Cebu City Social Welfare Services recorded 114 houses affected with 231 families or 669 individuals. 

Portia Basmayor, CSWS in-charge, said that house owners will receive financial assistance worth P20,000 and housing materials, while tenants will get P10,000. 

Fire victims sought shelter at the Cebu City Central School. Food was provided immediately to last for three days. 

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ordered a road reblocking in the affected areas after firefighters had a hard time reaching the interior portion because of narrow alleyways and obstructive structures.
