General Santos City has logged 749 cases of dengue from 26 barangays in the first quarter of 2024.

This number is four percent higher than the number of cases logged in the same period in 2023.

According to the City Health Office (CHO), most of the patients are children 10 years old and below.

Barangay Calumpang has the most number of cases with 112 from January to April 1, prompting health workers to intensity cleanup drives and misting operations to kill mosquitos that carry the dengue virus.

“Naay mga tire nga gipasagdahan lang nga may tubig then gipuy-an og mga lamok ug ang mga botilya, kanang mga balde. Didto gyud ang daghan kaayo nga gipuy-an sa mga lamok,” Calumpang Barangay Health Worker, Maria Fe Cenon, said.

Health authorities reminded the public anew to practice the 5S habit against dengue, which include search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; uphold self-protection like using insect repellents; seek early consultation at the nearest health care facility; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration.
