A 29-year-old farmer was injured badly after he was shot near his home in Barangay Cuancabal, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 8 p.m. when the victim, Levi Savellano, went outside his house to relieve himself.
The suspect, who was hiding near a tree, shot him multiple times.
The victim's family who were at a neighbor’s house heard the gunshots but were not able to go home immediately as they had to cross an irrigation canal.
"Dalawang motor na magkasunod, apat na suspek," the victim's sibling said.
Police said Savellano sustained five gunshot wounds from a caliber .45 pistol.
As of this writing, the police are investigating possible motives and persons of interest.
"Base sa pamilya ng biktima, a day before that, mayroon na silang naobserbahan na nagtatambay daw sa malapit sa kanilang bahay," PMAJ. Juan Jhay Ar Maggay, Officer-in-Charge of the Cabugao Police Station, said.
"Sinasabi naman niya sa amin kung may kaalitan siya pero ngayon wala siya nababanggit," the victim's sibling said.
EARLIER INCIDENT
Meanwhile, the police have identified two suspects in an earlier shooting incident in Barangay Cuantacla in the same municipality.
On March 9, Jerwin Inofinada, was shot while riding his motorcycle.
"Yung nauna is mayroon na tayong napilahan ng kaso na isang tao at isang John Doe… wala pa tayong nakikita na motibo unless mahuli natin yung perpetrator para dun natin mapiga kung ano yung motibo sa krimen na yun," Maggay said.
This is the second shooting incident in Cabugao in March 2024.
