Authorities have arrested two of the three suspects behind the killing of radio broadcaster Juan “DJ Johnny Walker” Jumalon in Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.
Police said the suspects identified as alias “Boboy” and alias “Inteng” are relatives and are both 39 years old. They were arrested on March 15, 2024, by virtue of an arrest warrant for murder.
It can be recalled that Jumalon was shot dead while doing live streaming of his program online at his residence.
According to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), Boboy was the one who allegedly poked a gun at Jumalon’s radio station helper when he opened the gate while Inteng was identified as the driver of their getaway motorcycle.
Operatives are still hunting down the remaining suspect identified as alias “Ricky” who was tagged as the gunman who shot Jumalon.
"Already, the Misamis Occidental PPO is following up on several leads on Mangumpit's whereabouts. Their dedication and unswerving commitment to solve this case is truly commendable,” PTFoMS Executive Director, Undersecretary Paul Gutierrez, said.
A total of 50,000 flyers containing the computerized facial sketch of alias “Ricky” will be distributed to the public to aid the manhunt while another 20,000 flyers were also given to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to be distributed in all PPA ports in Mindanao.
The accumulated monetary reward for those who can provide information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is P3.7 million.
Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Ricardo Layug Jr., lauded the operating units involved in the arrest of the suspects.
"We have made significant progress in our efforts to provide closure to DJ Johny Walker's killing. I want to commend everyone involved in this operation for their diligence and commitment. It is through our hard work and dedication that we uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of our communities," Layug said.
