Authorities in Calasiao, Pangasinan are considering putting stricter measures in place after an unidentified individual shattered the windshield of a passenger bus by throwing a stone at it dawn on March 1, 2024 in Barangay San Miguel.

"'Yung bato, pumasok ng loob [ng bus sa] upuan, nasa upuan 'yung bato, buti na lang walang nakaupo noong time na 'yun sa area na 'yun," Marites Ramos, the bus driver's wife, said.

The bus had 13 passengers on board during the incident, traveling to Dagupan City from Pasay.

Bus drivers and conductors assail the dangers posed by such incidents. They recalled a similar incident in Urdaneta City in 2023.

"Kapag sa driver, 'pag impact malakas, siguro kapag tinaaman ka doon, pati bus madi-disgrasya; pati pasahero madadamay," Henry Calacay, a bus driver, said.

"Maantala lahat pati pasahero, lalo 'yung [may] mga flight, mali-late sila kasi masasama pa sila sa pag-transfer at pag-report sa pulis," Calacay added.

Officials of Barangay San Miguel are now looking at fielding more personnel who can patrol the barangay more frequently, as well as installing CCTV cameras.

The barangay council suspects young residents violating the curfew might be the ones responsible.

"Hindi sure kung kabataan na taga Barangay San Miguel, Nalsian o ibang karatig barangay," Darryl Andaya, a councilman in San Miguel, said.
