Three persons were wounded after a grenade was hurled at a coffee station in Sitio Medina, Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.
The injured persons were identified as the owner of “Kapehan sa Medina,” her child, and an employee.
Portions of the coffee station, situated by the roadside, were destroyed, while supplies and other items up for sale were found scattered in the area after the explosion.
According to San Carlos City Police, the suspect was on board a motorcycle. He stopped in front of the said coffee-place and threw at it a grenade on February 27, 2024.
“Dumaan siya sa place of incident, huminto. At iyon na, hinagis niya ang ang granada. Na-identify siya ng biktima. Palagi pala siyang dumadaan daw sa lugar,” Major Ryan Villasario, deputy chief of San Carlos City Police, said.
The suspect was caught in a hot-pursuit operation and identified positively by one of the victims.
Initial investigation revealed that a land dispute could be the motive in the grenade-hurling.
The Local Government Unit of San Carlos City coordinated with authorities to prevent a similar incident.
“Hindi naman natin masasabi na gusto lang niyang mag-create ng chaos. Tinitingnan na ang motibo niya. The local government is trying (its) very best to safeguard our constituents,” Mayor Renato Gustilo stated.
