Authorities have terminated the search and retrieval operations at the site of the massive landslide that killed at least 93 people in Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro. 

The executive order issued by Maco Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire is effective 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Rimando issued the order based on the recommendation of the Incident Management Team (IMT).

According to the order, the incident commanders have reported that the retrieval and debris clearing at ground zero, covering the whole landslide area until its ground level, have been completed.

During the 16-day operations, 93 dead bodies were retrieved excluding several body parts dug out. At least 79 have been turned over to their families while 14 remained unidentified.

Since Sunday, February 18, no more human remains were found.

However, eight individuals are still missing, as of this writing.

“If we counter check po, we have kasi 14 unidentified bodies and body parts. And if we counter-check it with the eight missing, maybe, just maybe po, baka itong eight missing individuals natin ay andun na po sa unidentified body and body parts po,” Mawab Municipal Information Officer Jiesyl Mae Tan said earlier.
