The National Bureau of Investigation-Davao (NBI-11) has opened an investigation into the massive landslide that killed 93 people in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro.

NBI-11 Director, Atty. Arcelito Albao, said he issued a memorandum on February 16, 2024, directing his agents to conduct the probe.

The investigation aims to determine if there are personalities or agencies liable or have violated certain laws, which resulted in the tragic incident.

Albao also confirmed that some individuals were issued a subpoena but he declined to identify them.

As of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the total number of deaths is 93. Of this number, 79 have been turned over to their families and 14 remained unidentified.

The NBI-Disaster Victim Identification Unit earlier said that the people who were trapped in the landslide died of asphyxia by suffocation.
