A health worker died while another was injured after a motorcycle hit them while they were crossing the pedestrian lane in Barangay Balayong, Bauan, Batangas.

The victims were on their way to a memorial service. Meanwhile, the motorcycle was headed to Bauan from Alitagtag.

"Yung area po kasi ay highway at ‘yun po ay medyo slant, palusong. Matulin po ‘yung takbo ng motorsiklo. Sa sobrang bilis po ng kaniyang takbo ay ‘yun nga po ay nabangga niya ‘yung ating mga biktima," PMaj. Allan Nidua, Deputy Chief of the Bauan Police Station, said.

The incident was captured on CCTV.

The victims were just a few steps away from the sidewalk when they got struck by the speeding motorcycle.

The victims were transported immediately to the hospital but one of them died. 

The motorcycle rider is in police custody, facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.

Nidua reminded motorists to be careful, especially on unfamiliar roads and always be mindful of pedestrians.

"Ang paalala po natin sa mga motorista ay mag-dahan dahan po sa pagpapatakbo lalo na po ‘yung mga motorsiklo, at hindi naman po nila kabisado ‘yung daan, at ito nga po ay pababa po siya so dapat po ay mag-dahan dahan sila ng pagmamaneho at maging alerto," he said.
