At least 12 families were left homeless after a landslide buried their houses in Barangay Marilog Proper, Davao City following continuous rains.

The landslide buried seven houses and the affected families could no longer salvage their belongings as staying in the area would be too risky.

“Pagsaka nako diri, unsaon man nga nidagan naman ang yuta didto. Kita gyud ko nga nidagan ang yuta, nagsandig ko sa akong bongbong,” Alex Logronio, one of the residents, said.

Because of what happened, other residents who were spared dismantled their houses voluntarily due to safety concerns.

“Tinambak lang sya sa una. Then, siguro sa kusog nga ulan, nabug-at ang yuta. Mao to, pero naa na gyud to siyay namatikdan nga cracks sa maong area,” Mark Caminade, chairman of Disaster Committee of Barangay Marilog Proper, said.

Meanwhile, 22 families or nearly 100 individuals have evacuated in Upper Kibalang, Marilog Proper, after cracks were noticed on the ground.

The families affected stayed temporarily at the Kibalang Elementary School.

“Ginapaabot nako ang taga city disaster kay amoang imonitor ang maong yuta kung safe pa ba or dili na safe then pangitaan napud paagi kung asa sila irelocate,” Caminade said.
