More than 8,000 people were affected by the flooding in Davao City due to non-stop rains brought by the trough of the low pressure area (LPA), according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
The individuals affected are from 15 barangays.
Rescue teams used rubber boats to move residents in Barangay Tigatto to safer grounds. Other residents evacuated voluntarily before floodwaters rose.
Residents in Barangay Maa evacuated when floodwaters reached neck-deep.
In Barangay 19-B, the gymnasium is sheltering evacuees. They were attended to by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
Residents of Matina Gravahan were also taken to safer ground due to waist-deep floodwaters.
ISOLATED BARANGAYS
Meanwhile, at least nine barangays in the southern part of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental were isolated after the bridge in the town collapsed amid heavy rains brought by the trough of the LPA.
The barangays include Luzon, Tiblawan, Nangan, Surop, Tagabebe, Pundaguitan, Lavigan, Lanca, Luban, and Cabuaya.
According to the residents, this is the only bridge that connects the northern and southern parts of the town.
The residents affected had to use makeshift boats to cross the river.
