Eight fire incidents were recorded in 12 hours on January 28, 2024 in Cebu City.

Two of the eight fires broke out in Barangay Bacayan and in Barangay Gudalapue.

Fire razed to the ground three houses in Sitio Lower Bacayan with four other houses damaged partially.

According to Bacayan Barangay Chairman Winston Pepito, 14 families or 45 individuals were affected.

Some families were accommodated at Bacayan Elementary School while the rest sought shelter temporarily with relatives.

Another fire broke out in Lower Cabajar, Barangay Guadalupe. Fire destroyed seven houses while two were damaged partially. Damages in the Guadalupe fire were placed at close to P900,000.

The Cebu City Fire Office said that most of the incidents stemmed reportedly from substandard electrical appliances.

The fire count included three grassfire incidents caused reportedly by the open burning of leaves and garbage.

SFO2 Wendell Villanueva, information officer of the Cebu City Fire Office, reiterated that burning of leaves and garbage now carry a penalty.
