The number of people who died in the massive flooding and landslides in Davao region rose to 16, according to the Office of the Civil Defense-Davao (OCD-11).

Authorities said the Province of Davao de Oro has the most number of fatalities with 12, 11 of which are victims of a landslide in Monkayo town.

Vice President Sara Duterte visited the wake of those who died in the Monkayo landslide and handed over cash assistance and sacks of rice over the weekend.

“Sa Office of the Vice President may relief assistance after the disaster for Davao de Oro they can coordinate with NDRRMC dahil may budget na pwedeng punoan ang government units in times of disasters,” Duterte said.

The OCD-11 also said the damage to agriculture and infrastructure has reached P68 million and P27 million, respectively, while nearly 600,000 people were affected by the said calamities.

"First time nga almost 600 thousand people ang affected… naa nata sa early recovery stage mas bigger and wider ang intervention ang kinahanglan and going towards post disaster and need assessment para sa rehab and recovery,” OCD-11 Head Ednar Dayanghirang said.
