Up to 44,771 families are affected by the massive flooding that hit several areas in Mindanao, according to data from from the Office of the Civil Defense-11, as of January 18, 2023.

OCD-11 said more than 38,000 families are affected in Davao del Norte; nearly 6,000 families are affected in Davao de Orol at least 751 families are affected in Davao Oriental; and 20 families are affected in Davao Occidental since flooding started on Monday, January 15, 2024.

“Gina-expect nato nga murag increasing pa ang floodwaters nila because ang tubig gikan sa upstream areas then expect nga mubaba siya until Carmen, as the catch basin ni Davao del Norte. So, mag-expect ta nga mag-increase pa gyud ang tubig baha,” said OCD-11 spokesperson Franz Irag.

As of this writing, authorities are checking the damage to agriculture and infrastructure.

According to PAGASA-Davao, shear line will continue to bring rains in the region until Friday, January 19, 2024.

“Sa January 20, Sabado, weekend, naa nay improvement sa atong weather condition, partly cloudy to cloudy skies for Davao Region ug naay isolated nga mga pag-ulan-ulan,” PAGASA-Davao Chief Meteorological Officer Lolita Venally said.
