A woman in Lingayen, Pangasinan was arrested in an entrapment operation carried out by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Alaminos for allegedly selling government-owned land.
The operation was conducted in response to an estafa complaint.
The complainant claimed to have paid the suspect a total of P400,000 after entering into a Deed of Conditional Sale Agreement.
However, following the transaction, the complainant received a letter from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) stating that the land was not for sale as it is public land.
On January 16, 2024, the suspect allegedly asked for an additional P15,000 as appraisal fee.
This gave the NBI the opportunity to hatch the entrapment operation.
According to the NBI, the suspect insisted that she could sell the land, citing an application for the right to property.
The suspect is from Alaminos City, Pangasinan, according to Atty. Fabienne Matib, the Agent-in-Charge of NBI-Alaminos.
Authorities are searching actively for the accomplice who served as middleman in the negotiations.
