Strong waves battering the baywalk in Dagupan City, Pangasinan has damaged the ongoing project in Barangay Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.
According to the Barangay Council, what began as minor damage escalated over time.
In the past, the distance between the baywalk and the sea was 20 to 30 steps but the continuous impact of the waves transformed the baywalk into what now resembles a seawall, according to Agustina Castañares, the Barangay Administrator.
"Malakas ang alon pero doon lang na parte, ang impact niya naapektuhan mga semento," she said.
The Barangay Council appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which oversees the project, to address the damage.
"Kailangan na maayos ng pangmadalian… ang Binuan Binloc ay nakikita na marami ang namamasyal lalo sa umaga at hapon," Castañares added.
DPWH assured that rehabilitation plans are in place as it awaits the release of the Quick Response Fund.
“Ire-rehabilitate, ‘yun ang gagawin. Hinihintay lang ‘yung ni-request. Quick [response] fund for calamity damage," Engr. Criselda Nicer, incoming Project Engineer at DPWH-1, said.
